The time is short, and the Saviour is calling
The Passover was rapidly drawing near. As Jesus entered the temple He was well aware that this would be his last public sermon. No longer would He hide His lessons in parables and stories. Now it was time to be direct so that no person would be lost that it was possible to save. The seven woes Jesus pronounced on the Scribes and the Pharisees sound like hyperbole and exaggeration. Instead they reveal what our hearts are like without Him. Hypocricy can contaminate every heart. Only the love of God in our hearts can get rid of it. Jesus’ last sermon showed that He will never give up on us.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Matthew 23:37-39
