Who Can Stand Before God?
When Moses asked to see the glory of God, he was told that “no man shall see Me, and live.” God appeared to Moses in a burning bush. He directed the children of Israel by a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. His presence dwelt between the cherubim in the sanctuary. Jesus came to earth without any hint of the glory that surrounded Him in heaven.
God hid His glory while on earth because God is “a consuming fire.” Sin cannot exist in His presence. It is only by knowing God and living out His unselfish love in our own lives, that we will be able to stand in His presence at the second coming. God does not want any of us to be lost, but He gives each of us the freedom to choose to be lost. We make our choices and then our choices make us. To stand in God’s presence we must be choosing to know Him and worship Him, “in spirit and in truth.”
“Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil. Isaiah 33:14-15
