Light
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5
Did you ever wonder where the light come from on the first day of creation, and the sun and the moon didn’t come into existence until the fourth day? Well, before creation there was just darkness over deep water and into this Jesus spoke, and there was light. That original light was all the light the world needed, just as in the New Jerusalem where “…They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light…” (Rev 22:4) John chapter 1 tells us that our creator was Jesus and that He was the light at the beginning in that darkness and is our light and guide in the spiritual darkness of the world in which we live.
Jesus came to this world two thousand years ago to show to us who He was and to show us the love of God in action not just in theory. This occasion, the greatest event in earth’s history, was largely missed by a world enshrouded in darkness, unable to comprehend what the light really meant. So it is with us all individually today. We stand with stones in our hands, ready to cast judgement upon our neighbors when in fact, the darkness in which we dwell hides the knowledge of our own guilt. “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12) More than anything, we need the light of God.
