Hebrews (part 8): By Faith
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Faith is the forerunner to everything. If we read the Bible in order to obtain faith, we will be disappointed. It is only be reading the Bible with faith that our faith will then grow. In Hebrews chapter 11 we are given examples of those who lived before Jesus came to this earth. They walked with God, and they obeyed God even when they could not see the end from the beginning. The all kept their eyes on the heavenly city that God was preparing for them.
As we go through life, we must be focused on the unseen. We may not be able to see the ministry of Christ in heaven, but we can have faith that he is there, interceding for us. We have hope in the second coming of Christ, and that hope is strengthened because the first coming of Jesus was a historical event. We need to look unto Jesus, the “author and finisher of our faith.” The most important thing is that we are part of the journey. We are only asked to run the race.
