Hebrews (part 1): And God Spoke
See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven. Hebrews 12:25
Pastor Peter opens for us the book of Hebrews. An apostolic book of unknown authorship (probably Paul), written around the year 60 just a handful of years before the destruction of Jerusalem, it was meant as a warning and a reminder of the times in which they lived. In the gospel of Matthew Jesus had connected these events: the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple, and with the last hours of earth’s history and His second coming. The book of Hebrews was very important for the survival of the inhabitants of Jerusalem during the first century and is equally important to us in the closing hours of earth’s history. It takes us back to a solid grounding, to the sure word of prophecy, and to the words spoken by God Himself. This book of exhortation is among one of the greatest gifts we have received through the prophetic word. Over the next few weeks Pr Peter will continue to build on and open up the guidance written there for our very generation.
