Deliverance
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes[ we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
Despite being slaves of the Egyptians, God was preparing His people for their deliverance. Nine plagues had been and gone, but still Pharaoh hardened his heart against the command of God. The Israelites were now to prepare for what would be known as the Passover. They were to take a lamb or a young goat and sacrifice it. They were then to take its blood and put it on the doorposts and lintel of their home. They were to roast the flesh and eat it in haste, ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples the night before he was arrested. He was hurried through a farce of a trial, and crucified on a cross. He died to deliver us from the slavery of sin. Today, we must again be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Following the current increase in apostasy and spiritualism, followers of Christ will be persecuted. We have to be ready, because Christ is coming to deliver us. He is coming to take us to a place better than the land flowing in milk and honey that was promised to the Israelites. He is coming to take us home with him to heaven.
But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9
