Sacrifice
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17
Most of us balk at the idea of giving up something so that someone else can have it. Sin has made us all selfish. But we should all ask ourselves the question that Jesus asked the rich young ruler – What am I prepared to give up for God? The things that tie us to this world may not in themselves be bad. They may even be God-given, such as our family. But if we put them before following Jesus they will lead us astray. God sacrificed His son Jesus in order to save us. We must never forget the need to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
