Prayer as Communion
To Know God’s Will – To Know Our Calling
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
The Children of Israel were in captivity in Babylon. Nevertheless, God sent them a message through Jeremiah. The message he sent them was a message of hope. Jeremiah’s Hebrew readers knew that their future was connected with their past, that their future could be seen in the way God had shaped their lives up until now.
God has shaped us through our past experiences – positive as well as painful. It is only through these experiences that we can learn to fully trust God. It is only through our experiences that we can reach out to others. Without struggles and successes, we cannot grow in faith and trust in God. We may not be able to see it at the time, but some of our darkest moments can be turned around to become our greatest blessings. It is only by daily communing with God in prayer that we can grow to know His will for our lives, and how he can use us so that others may also know him.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 1:8-10
