Only Christ Can Set You Free
(Communion Service)
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Emma Lazarus – Carved on the Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was a symbol of freedom to the refugees and migrants passing it, seeking a new life. They had fled wars, and hardships and persecution. But they had made it to the United States of America. They were now free.
There is nothing on this earth that can give us compete freedom. Only Jesus can give that freedom. Mankind is trapped by their sins and circumstances. We are here serving time. That may be the devil’s plan but it is not God’s plan.
When we celebrate communion we are celebrating God’s plan to set us free. We have to live with the consequences of our sins. It is only the broken body and split blood of Christ that can set us free. What God wants for us is to feel the joy of that freedom in Him, the joy of our salvation.
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:36
