Ancient Words for Modern Families

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Why are our children leaving the church? Children don’t just watch what we do on the Sabbath. They watch what we do every day of the week. Children don’t need to see perfect adults. What they need are authentic adults. Adults who make mistakes and are forgiven, and are prepared to admit that. Adults who model the kingdom values of grace and forgiveness and reconciliation and love and show the next generation what kingdom living looks like. Children need to see our faith working in our lives every day in all that we do if they are going to develop faith for themselves.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

In the afternoon, Pr Daron talked to us about technology and how we need to model appropriate technological use to our children. We need balance, variety and moderation in all aspects of our life. We all need to live lives that are well balanced and well lived.
