Going for God’s Gold
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7,8
In ancient Greece a laurel wreath was awarded to victors, both in athletic competitions and in poetic meets. In Rome they were symbols of martial victory. God has a wreath made of gold waiting for each of us. To procure it we will need to fight the good fight by never giving up, have the staying power to finish the race, and commit to following Jesus. The secret to obtaining the crown of life is not to run from God but to run to God. It is only our commitment to Jesus as Lord that will help us to stay on course.
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy. 1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20
